What have you all been doing since last week? Anything exciting? Mr. Owl tree, here at owl tree cottage is beginning to spring forth with leaf!
Mine has been a mixed week... poor George has gone all bent on me again, he is not straight at all! He got in the car on Monday, stretched his leg on the clutch and did his back in again. Yes, he suffers from back trouble occasionally, and the strangest things can set it off! Once he was reaching for his toothbrush and it went on him big time! Poor George (big ahhhhhh here!), he has been in pain, and I have been in fits of laughter. I know, I know, thats awful, but he understands me after all these years, and my very strange sense of humour by now, and he deliberately trys to make me laugh by making comments!
I, very sadly have always been afflicted with inappropiate giggling! I think it is nerves or something! For instance, when he came in from the car he told me that there were some children waiting for the bus across the road watching him struggle to get out of the car and then hobble to the house looking like he had had an accident in his pants! Then later on when he was coming down the stairs, very slowly and all hunched over, and I was trying so hard to contain myself, he just had to say to me that I can laugh if I want, to which I reply... of course I won't laugh! Followed of course by the giggles and many apologies! Talking about apologies... what about Gordon Brown this week? Oh dear!
I on the other hand have had quite a good week on the back of it (sorry for the pun!). For one thing I have had his company for a few days, which is lovely! And on wednesday night, he felt a lot better and ready to go back to work the next day ( he is so rarely off work sick, infact I always tease him and say that he schedules his flus, colds, etc., for weekends and holidays!) and we had a steak and wine, which we don't usually do mid-week! So I have enjoyed him being home and eating earlier in the evenings, having more time together...the weekends are so short and flash by so quickly... heavy sigh! Last weekend we enjoyed yet another BBQ! The fresh sardine fillets were wonderful!
These veggie kebabs with the fresh prawns were delish!
Anyway, on the Monday night he could not get in the bed at all, and he slept on the armchair downstairs. He can sleep absolutely anywhere at all! (more George stories there! ), where as I on the other hand, can not! I have trouble with my sleep quite often. I am losing my zzzzzzzzzzzz s! In more ways than one! .... the z on my computer is on it's way out and I have to press really hard to get one, so soon I may be called Suie! Bertie jumped on the keyboard and sent my little z a flying! I was reading THIS post (by a very lovely lady!) and it struck a cord with me. Also a lovely , lovely sweet friend on Facebook (if you are reading this, you know who you are! KAY!) has trouble with the night time too. During the day, mostly, I am a very positve and optimistic person... but when I go to bed there is a monster under my bed! I toss and turn, worrying myself to bits. Every single niggle or worry comes crashing in at night time, and my mind will not be still at all! Does this happen to any of you lovely readers? It is awful, and of course.. very very tiring!
I love Dali!
I have always had the night terrors though, and when I do sleep.. I have very vivid and peculiar dreams. Recently, the lack of sleep is becoming more prominent. Of course once you get it in your head, it is very hard to stop the cycle! But by gawd, isn't that bedroom ceiling so interesting! NOT!
During the day though I have been busy though! I have been making a start on the garden and have got some veggies ready for planting ( I have only raised a few seeds this year and the rest have had to be ready to plant plants, due to work being done in the house). Room makeovers coming soon! I must remember to take before pictures! I shall be doing a complete kitchen makeover on a very, very tight budget!
Been painting again.............
Also I have been finishing off this cross stitch that I started sewing several years ago, and haven't touched since. It is not one of mine.. I wish it was...tis beautiful indeed and really is wasted stuck in a draw all scrumpled up! It really does not need much work to finish it, so I really should do! So I have been sewing this along side a few other sewing projects too.
Before I go I would like to give a mention to another Kay, who I know from facebook too! She is a lovely person and I really like her a lot, so please go and visit her on her blog HERE. On her recent post she has said the most lovely things about me, I was truly touched by her words! She has done some lovely creations and said that one of her pieces featured in her post were inspired by me! Gosh Kay you are so kind and wonderful, I wish you lived near by! I would give you a big hug! Thank you.
Anyway Enough! Enough for this week folks, Let me know what you all have been up to, I am so awfully nosey you know!
Happy days to you all! Suzie xxxxxxxxxxx
Poor George! & fancy you losing your zzzz suie. I have monsters all over the house that prevent me from sleeping, in fact there is one particular one that prevents me from doing lots of things!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your paintings & stitcheries...you are so damn clever.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dear Suzie, I am so sorry to hear about George's back. I hope this note finds him feeling a wee better. I must tell you that your painting is FABULOUS! I love the butterflies and the faeries. And I'm thrilled that you are finishing up that lovely faerie cross stitch. You are right - it is so beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend! Theresa :)
ReplyDeleteHey Suzie girl, oh my gosh the week has flown by again. Sorry about George's predicament and hope he is well soon. The painting is coming along so beautifully. Very surreal. And the cross-stitch is awesome. Aren't they just so time consuming. I always lose interest waaaaaaaay before they are completed. Happy weekend and happy gardening to you. Hope your weather will be complimentary to gardening as ours is promising thunderstorms and much rain:( Hugs girlfriend, Mollye
ReplyDeletesorry to say, dear friend, but I do not share your troubles with sleeping. I think I am the exact opposite of you!!! (Not quite narcoleptic, though...) I bet a little yoga at home before bedtime would help a whole lot, it really does calm the mind.
ReplyDeletePoor George!! I hope his back feels better soon, and doesn't act up anymore for him! That must be so awful!
Can't wait to see your kitchen redo-- I bet it will be so pretty... I can already imagine it. ;)
Oh poor George I hope he is all limber and vertical once more... and when I look at Dali's pictures I wonder what must have been going on in his mind to conceive these visions... I am loving the painting... its been so long since I painted anything... are you using gouache or tubed water colour? I really aught to get back to doing something trouble is Danny is at that age where he wants to know where I am and what I am doing all the time... I too have a monster living in my bedroom... I think if I could clear it out and it not be used as a storage area for everything that doesn't have a home in the house then he would have fewer places to hide... lol
ReplyDeleteYou simply must inish that fairy, she is beautiful... and you have done an amazing job...
Our kitchen redo is coming along very slowly... but I think I might have to go and buy an oven and oven cabinet this weekend as I miss it dreadfully... who would have thunk it! cooking is not my fortee but being without an oven and hob for the last 3 weeks has been horrible... lol
Wishing you and yours a wonderful weekend and way to go with the veggies... I have greenhouse envy! ;D
x Alex
beautiful blog! wonderful water colour! thanks for comments on mine ;0)xx hope your sleep pattern begins to improve- while pregnant i suffered with sleep loss alot- would lay for hours, id feel tired but couldnt sleep- and then when you've got a baby you need all the sleep in the world hehe ;0)x
ReplyDeleteOh poor George. It's not funny but I did have to laugh! I do hope he gets better soon. I love your paintings too. Oh how I wish I could paint like that.
ReplyDeleteYou are quite a pair you and George. You always make me laugh. I was just wondering if you have ever done drawings for children's books? You'd be very popular with the girls I can tell you!
ReplyDeleteMy week has been quite ordinary I'm afraid. Lots of tooing and froing from kindy. I seem to be always going somewhere. I'm sure I'm due for a lovely home day sometime soon. Enjoy your weekend and I hope your dear man sorts his back out really soon.
just left a really long comment & it disappeared ! Will try later xx
ReplyDeleteOh no, hope the George is better soon, my back is playing up again at the moment and it's so horrible, you can't do anything!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the inappropriate giggling front too!
When it comes to sleep though I'm afraid I'm a George, whenever, whereever, if I'm tired I'll be zonking out. I nearly fell asleep in a meeting yesterday - although I think that's more a reflection on the meeting than how tired I was. I get mocked constantly for my ability to fall asleep in cars. You know how babies fall asleep straight away from the rocking motion? That's me! A 27 year old baby! Just cannot, for the life of me, stay awake in a car if the journey is going to take more than half an hour!
Hope you catch your zzzzzzzzzzzzzz's soon. xx
Well I can sympathise with George and the back, the slightest thing can set mine off as well, though it still hasn't recovered from a bad fall down the stairs nearly two months ago now! And I sympathise about the restless mind stopping you sleeping... you just have to think about one thing, that leads to another, and another and so on.... you could try.... deep breathing in to the count of four, out to the count of six. Or, another strange game I play with myself is that I go through the alphabet trying to remember place names beginning with, say.... B followed by A, then when that's exhausted, E, I, O, U.... so you could have Bath, Bedford, Bideford, Boston, Buckfastleigh.... do you get the idea? This has me off in zedland within minutes!!! Probably bored myself to sleep!

It's darkest before the dawn. My night demons come out too. I fight back with plans for the house/garden/what-I-would-do-if-I-won-the-lottery. Try having a flask of hot chocolate on the bedside table for when you wake. Can bad thoughts really exist when you're sipping hot chocolate? I think not!
ReplyDeleteSorry about George's back. Hope he's feeling better soon. With me, it's husband's cramp. In fact, anyone's cramp but my own. For some reason it's hilarious to watch others marching around shouting. Can't help myself :) xx
Oh yes Penny! Come back later! xxx
ReplyDeletePoor George ! Roddy gets a particular ache - I say it's not housemaid's knee or tennis elbow...it's sailor's shoulder ! I get Bloggers' neck.
ReplyDeleteI suffer from anxiety dreams & wake op & lean over to look onder the bed for boxesof aperwork which aren't there. Once I was up looking for " dead white rabbits " under the bed ! It woke Jes & Joe who were in fits of giggles watching their mad mother !
I'm doing seedlings as Ihave nowhere for sed trys. Somehow, I just know those pesky hens are going to get in & eat them!
Have a great weekend Suie ! xx
OMGoodness...poor George!! At night I suffer from "kitty interruptus"...What is it you ask?? It is an occurance that happens periodically when my kitty wants to cuddle & he pokes at me to make room for him on the pillow!! I love it & don't mind a bit!!
ReplyDeleteLove you creations!!
Hugs,
Marilyn
Hi Suzie,
ReplyDeletePoor George, I do hope he is fighting fit soon. My DH suffers with back problems too.
Love your pictures as ever and the cross stitch looks very pretty.
Yes I can get the night jitters. Usually if I am having a period of time with anxiety. Its one of the signs. Every terrible slight possible bad thing that might happen starts turning up in our bedroom parding up and down in knickers and tights. Which would be funny If it didnt look so angry and scary!!
Hope you have a great weekend and many naps to catch upon your zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's
MBBx
Oh poor George. I hope he is feeling better now. About the sleep problems I am the same way. Lately things have been quite bad and with Joe-Joe so mobile and demanding more attention to be entertained, it makes me feel utterly tired.
ReplyDeleteI love your work, so magical!
xxx
Sending a big virtual hug and thank you smackerooney on the forehead for your lovely comments, hope George is fighting fit again soon and loving your painting pretty amazing if you don't mind me saying. Until next time.

Oh dear, poor George!! Hope his back is ok now!! Loving the fresh sardines!!! Your paintings are so pretty, I really love them!! I hate not sleeping/sleeping properly!! I do what you do, worry, and mull everyhting over!! I definitely don't have an off switch!!
ReplyDeletexxxx
Hi!!!!! How is George now?Hope he's feeling a lot better! Oh dear, you're so funny and made me laugh when you said that he could sleep anywhere..my mum always falls asleep on the kitchen's table, while my nan on her chair while sewing..ouch! Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend..hey..you stitched very cleverly those poor shrimps! ;-) xxxxx
Lovely painting - just going over to see Kay's blog. Love your owls - pop over and see mine if you like!
ReplyDeleteMy Dear Suie, (oh those troublesome ZZZ's!)
ReplyDeletePoor George, I hope his back is better soon!
I laugh sometimes when I shouldn't-once when I was about 12 or so my poor Grandma fell all the way down an escalator-I couldn't move to help her, or call for help or anything-I just dissolved into a fit of giggles-I suppose I was in shock!! (Grandmas aren't supposed to do things like that!)
Your new projects are wonderful and your dinner looks so yummy too!
Happy gardening my Dear-it's that time of year and I love it!!
xx Valerie
Yet another wonderful post by you. I really do love your work, the painting and cross stitch are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about George's back and you're having trouble sleeping. I can sympathize with George, having had my first back surgery when I was 28. It messes with my sleep a lot so I know how you must feel after a sleepless night. I can also relate to the weird dreams too! Lately I've been waking up going, "What the heck was that about?". I hate the ones that wake me with my heart racing or I find myself crying. I hope the monster gives you some peace and restful sleep soon! xxxxx
Poor George, hope his back feels better soon! I love your artwork I'm seriously stunned when I look at it!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely peeps you all are! xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteYES...you silly GOOSE...George, will you please shake some sense into your giggling girl! YOU WON GNOMES AHOY! I hope you like gnomes my friend because a few little men are coming to visit you and I don't want you to send them back to me
ReplyDelete!
I love the fact you admit you laugh at George...humor in a marriage is good. I think your George of the Jungle and my Leonard of the Sea would get along like two ducks swimming in water. My Len is hilarious and he laughs at himself easy. He is always going to invent something...his latest is taking a doll house toilet plunger and using it as a belly button sucker...okay, I said it...this too shall pass...a lint catcher he says...
I'm a terrible sleeper just like you and I have had reoccuring dreams often and they are never pretty. I only sleep about 4-5 hrs a night and then forget it. I'm having more and more challenges with it the older I get but my work is a monster on my back. I usually wake up with such an active mind, I just get up. It could be 130am or 300am..today it was 230am and sometimes I sleep until 5am...but rare.
Other than blogging I went and got a business license this week for the future and I was thrilled I was able to take back my parents business name under Once Upon a Fairyland. I was thrilled. I helped my daughter move across the hall last weekend and I went to a casino and had a blast one night but won very little...wasteful...nah...just breaking a few rules in my life.
Until we meet again...look for your GNOMES AHOY package to arrive sometime in mid May.
Your painting is beautiful; you have a real talent. I've always wanted to be able to learn to draw and paint like that.
ReplyDeleteHello my dearest Freind. I have had this page open to comment sicne friday, but the boys are keeping me and Drew busy, so I am sneaking a comment whikst finnishing dinner for us all! I think we know how nasty our health can be and it is that which torments me, as it does you.
ReplyDeleteWe are strong capable women, at least we are during the day and we will get through.
Sending George healing vibes and hope that he is better soon
Love J
I love your style of painting! How precious your little girl is! I hope this week is a good one for you! ♥
ReplyDeleteHello there Suzie!
ReplyDeleteOur Oak is just coming into leaf, too - new leaves are that amazing lime-green aren't they; gorgeous!
Oh dear poor George! Hope he mends soon; bent husbands are not much use!
Isn't it lovely to have them home from work though, even when they are afflicted! I love having Tom near me on the sofa through the day in the week - it's so rare so such a treat! :)
I too have a monster under the bed! My problems seem so magnified at night, then I awake the next day and think "what was I worrying about?".
That cross stitch is wonderful! What patience you have. Your painting is looking as delightful as always!
Hope your Bank Holiday weekend has gone well, better than the Lancashire weather has, anyway!
Lucy. Xx
Hi Suzie, I have left a couple of awards for you over at mine!!!
ReplyDeletexxxx
Hi Suzie, Poor George, he must have the same problem as my Nige. I do hope he is feeling better a bad back is awfal.
ReplyDeleteYour paintings are just wonderful. They take me off to a better place just looking at them.
Have a good week.
Carol x
Oh Suie - Poor George- I can sympathise with you both having taken 3 hours to load a very naughty horse into a horsebox to go to his new owner MrP and myself both ache and my back has that twinge that I am determined not to let develop and yes apparently its a "lady of a certain age" thing the not sleeping- that and the million and one things that pop into your head the moment it hits the pillow- strange isn't it? I can sleep for England on the sofa while watching a film but the moment I go to bed - ping wide awake!! Can I recommend Lindy Smiths cake icing dvd- she is a lovely lady but the dvd sends you quite happily off to sleep- not sure how George would feel about you watching cake icing dvds in the bedroom though =O) Jxx
