Party time!!! Show us your Cath!

Well, here it is, the Cath Kidston party! Go to Lissy lou's blog to see who is taking part.
http://lissylouandthe2littleboys.blogspot.com

I have visited many blogs lately which have shown the latest Cath Kidston book 'Sew', and people who have bought it saying how good it is.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, after drooling over said book each time I saw it, I looked at it on Amazon, thinking I will just have a little look. It doesn't mean that I will buy it I convinced myself!  So, I read a couple of reviews, and ummmed and awhhed. Was just about to leave it, when I noticed that not only did it include patterns for many lovely makes, but it also included all you need to make a very pretty handbag! Gosh, I thought, this is a bargain which can't be ignored. What strong resolve I have! NOT!!!
I had the book for about a week before I got stuck in and made the bag. I decided to line it with red gingham and put a button I had covered on to the front. Having never made a bag before, I was really chuffed! I got the big giddy girl syndrome!

When Lissy Lou suggested this party, I got to thinking about why I and so many others love Cath Kidston so much. What is it that makes us fill up with excitement when we see her fabrics, colours, homeware, etc? What is the secret ingredient that beckons?
Is it that we are reminded of cosy times, perhaps of childhood, Enid Blyton and Ladybird books and nostalgic imaginings? With bright fresh and whimsical florals, polka dots and stripes, can it be awakening something within us that makes us feel warm and safe. I feel that Cath kidston conjures up feelings and images of baking in a country kitchen, vintage homes, fresh bread and being surrounded by gorgeous colour and pattern. It is a feel good thing!

I love the cheerfulness and also quirkiness of  the overall look of mixing florals together with polka dots, stripes and cute patterns, quite often in soft pinks, blues and splashes of red, with fresh greens. I think it is hard to explain the feeling that it all gives me, but I am sure anyone reading this, with the same love of anything vintage will know what feeling I refer to. It actually gives me a buzz of sorts! I just love it!

If I woke up one morning and found myself surrounded by all things Cath Kidston or the like, I would think I had died and gone to heaven!

It doesn't surprise me at all that I like Cath Kidston so much, as I do some Laura Ashley........................

Monsoon....................

and Bridgewater too,

After all I do so love all those old Doris Day films which give such a rosey cosy picture of home!

Love the film Don't eat the daisys!!!

I would like one of these!

I would also love :

And look at this gorgeous pin tin!!!

Just look at these knitted cupcakes I found on the internet for more inspiration!

Now here are a few of my own Cath Kidston and CK inspired goodies that are dotted about my home!

A Ck carrier bag bag, one to actually want out instead of hiding it away under the stairs!

The dotty jug is Laura Ashley, as is the enamel cake stand, the heart I made and the little cup is Ck!

I love mixing florals with checks, Here is what I have on my bed at the moment! Rosebud and pink gingham pillow, with a sequin edged top pillow, floral duvet and patchwork bedspread in green gingham and pink florals with tiny splashes of red.

A spotty dotty holdall hanging next to my much adored monsoon handbag.

A bright red polka dot enamel tin from Primark (!) sits on a lovely vintage linen embroidered tray cloth, which in turn lays on a Laura Ashley tea towel (too nice to be used as a tea towel) with Laura Ashley daisy coasters bought in a sale!

I love this little enamel bucket, it is so cute! I have a few enamel buckets now, for some reason!

This peg bag makes hanging out the laundry so much nicer. It is bright and cheerful and I love it!

Finally! Here are a few of some lovely squares made up out of a mix of CK and Laura Ashley fabrics, all ready and waiting to be made up into a patchwork creation of some sort!

Well everybody, I hope you enjoyed my CK party. I am off out now, into blogland to go to all the other wonderful parties going on out there today! Can't wait!

So until next week, enjoy the parties and have a fabulous weekend!

Lots of love and hugs Suzie. :) xxx

  1. What an amazing post with so many beautiful images to go ga ga over! Your home is very appealing ... wish I could pop over for a cup of tea! We don't have monsoon here, shame. I used to love the clothes and had a gorgeous dress from there, bought in 1987 - is it the same shop I wonder branching out into homewares? Will take a look on the link for the ck party, thanks!

  6. Ooohhh what lovely goodies you have in your home! Well done for making the Cath Kidston bag from her 'Sew' book. I bought the book and got the bag out to make yesterday...then put it away again! Maybe a bit more practice on the old sewing machine before i attempt it! I love the lining fabric you used in it. Have a great day Suzie! Vanessa xxxxx

  7. Ooooh lots of eye candy! I very much enjoyed this post. I think you are right about the whole CK and the like vibe. It is based on a whole warm and fuzzy nostalgia thing. I also think it is a response to the rather drab and grey and quite frankly lifeless interiors we have been subjected to over the years. Long may it all last.

And well done on the bag, I have to say I think the book would be tempting to buy just for that. Although I havent given in yet........lol.:0)

    Have a lovely weekend.

  15. Karen and dottydaisies (Sarah???), the red polka dot tin is indeed from primark! It was quite cheap too. It was probably about 2 or 3 years ago now, and I have never seen one again in there. they seem to have cut back on their homeware these days! Suzie. xxx

  29. You have my heart swooning to the goodies of both Cath and Laura and Susie. I have wanted a tent too. I have made one of her laundry bags out of a pillow case a few years back. This post was a real treat...I love your bedding...actually, I'll just wrap it up with a bow and tell you I seem to love everything you do. You would have loved my doll house on wheels. About 4 yrs ago, in a hard time in my life I lived in a 5th wheel trailer. I had it all pink patchwork, Cath Kidston and vintage pink and teal colors...I called in my "happy camper". Good night to my new friend. Blessings sent all the way to you!

  38. Suzie thank you so much for sharing your truly inspirational thoughts with me, I REALLY appreciate it. Well it is a difficult one for me, I have much to share emotionally but like you, want people to leave my blog with a smile on their face and a little skip in their step. Well frankly life is not like that, I am drawn to blogs where I may get to know at least a little of the real soul of that person if that makes any sense. And yet I wonder if I am as generous with my emotions, maybe I shall set up a little private blog for my eyes only where I can get it all out.

Suzie what a journey you have been on, none of us know what is round the corner and you have been faced with a very tough and steep hurdle in life, I hope with all my heart that you are now moving forward and that the sunshine is always upon your back, ((((( Suzie )))))

I have been going through your blog and came across the beautiful photograph you took with the most amazing sky, had you noticed the little orb like feature in the sky. I have these often in some of my photgraphs though they only appear with Miss. Poppins, I have been told could be her little brother looking over her. I have also been told it could be dust, but I know which explanation I prefer.

    Hugs

  48. you sure know how to bring a smile to a face... loved the images, and I think you are right the fabrics and colors are evocative of Enid Blyton days, dreaming of being one of the Famous Five or Secret Seven. Ladybird books too, I used to love the one where the children went to a party and the girls had the most beautiful party dresses with matching shoes, I always wanted a party dress like that.. so Thanks for the images and the chance to reminisce

  49. I love all your pretty things - I am sure the appeal of Cath Kidston is to do with nostalgia. I have always liked the traycloths, crochet blankets, etc - they definitely conjure up a vision of childhood and visiting grandmas for me. And obviously I have just never grown up into pared-down minimalism - I am stuck in an eternal retro childhood!
